Editorial

Summer is always a busy period at the CCE and this year even more so. At the end of August we will be hosting a summer university of an international scope, which will focus on the future of the planet. Researchers and politicians from the five continents will think together, write and publish, at the end of the university the "manifeste de Saint-Jean d'Angély".
The Centres annual General Assembly was held on the 6th July. Many new members attended. In the presence of a delegation of the Fidenza Centre of European Culture Sigeric, the assembly elected a renewed administration council of which Mrs Francine Vaniscotte is the president. The president of the Fidenza Sigeric centre, Mr Massimo Tedeschi was elected vice president of the Saint-Jean d'Angély centre.
You will fin the moral report 2006-2007 approved by this assembly alongside 2008 projects here.
Have a great summer.

Alain Ohnenwald,
director of Centre of European Culture

European news

- European competition «The european union and non-discrimination»

Removing discrimination and ensuring equal treatment and opportunities for citizens and residents of the European Union, notably youth, are objectives shared by the EU and its Member States. Saying NO TO DISCRIMINATION is affirmation of a basic European value and is part of an everyday battle. The Competition coincides with the European Union’s 50th anniversary celebrations and provides young people with an opportunity to team up and work together on the theme of non-discrimination, with the aim of strengthening their position when called on to defend and promote this principle.

The European Commission’s Directorate-General for Justice, Freedom and Security is organising a European poster creation Competition entitled “The European Union and non-discrimination”. The poster must illustrate the theme of non-discrimination. In your country, the coordination of the competition at national level will be the responsibility of the European Commission Representation Office

The Competition is open to young people residing in one of the 27 Member States of the European Union and is split into two age categories: 12-14 and 15-18.

The poster and the accompanying submission form must be delivered in person to the offices of the national coordinator for logistics no later than Wednesday 31 October 2007.

The works will be selected by a jury made up of several people. The winners will be selected according to the following criteria: appropriateness of the message given the objective; graphic quality; clarity of the message; and originality of the work.In each country, all teams taking part will be able to attend an awards ceremony in the capital city on Tuesday 20 November 2007.
The works that win the national prizes will be judged a second time by a jury made up of representatives from the European Commission and other people. The three winning teams in each age category, i.e. six teams in total, will then be invited for a trip to Brussels from Saturday 15 to Monday 17 December 2007 to discover all the city has to offer, including the European institutions, and to attend the awards ceremony chaired by Commissioner Franco Frattini, Vice-President of the European Commission. The posters of the European winners may be used for future European anti-discrimination campaigns.
