MUSICAL RESIDENCIES

Working as always with a multi-disciplinary approach, the Centre of European Culture continues its activities in the field of musical creation in particular by encouraging performing and musical ensemble residencies.

The Centre regularly receives and co-produces renowned musicians who give concerts and make recordings in exceptional acoustic conditions.

Duo Harmane : Pascal Ducourtioux and Sidar Güres
In Turkey, “Harmane” means the season of threshing and harvesting or a mix of different elements.  Sidar Güres, a Kurdish musician and Pascal Ducourtioux, a French musician and composer, present a dialogue of cultures as part of the Year of Turkey. Sidar sings and plays the “baglama” (a stringed instrument) and Pascal plays the guitar and percussion (darbouka – a goblet drum and bodhran -an Irish frame drum).

The musical idea of this duo is to bring the traditional Turkish repertoire right up to date and to work on creations in an intercultural dimension.  “The eyes on tradition and the heart on musical open-mindedness”.

In partnership with many cultural organisations, this duo have joined forces so that they can emphasise, through their music, the wealth of artistic resources in both France and in Turkey.

Venance Fortunat Ensemble
Since 1994, the Centre has been welcoming this ensemble of ancient music directed by Anne-Marie Deschamps.  Courses on Medieval singing for professionals and amateurs are organised.  Work with the body also supports the vocal techniques, memorisation and performance.  The course also includes the study of traditional singing, songs of trades and craftsmen and medieval illustrations.
