WHO ARE WE?

We are the Centre of European Culture which is at the head of a network of Centres of European Culture. These centres are dedicated to youngsters (16-20 year olds) and organises plurinational encounters based on culture and citizenship in the European Union countries and partner countries.

We are the creators of a unique experience that has been developed since 1989, in terms of intercultural and citizenship education.

We are a Centre approved by the French Ministry of Education as a complementary association to public education.

A structure which is supported by the French state, the Eurpean Commission, the Poitou-Charents regional council, the Charente Maritime council and the municipality of Saint Jean d'Angély.

As for the idea of culture and citizenship encounters, it germinated in 1989 in Saint Jean d'Angély, the Centre of European Culture project proves to be necessary in order to fill the existing gaps regarding education to Europe. In this filed everything remains to be accomplished. Up until then the construction of Europe had let to one side the cultural dimension. The perspectives of enlargement make such actions necessary and urgent.

In many regards an innovative project, the creation of the centre of European Culture comes under the Status of non-profit making organisation. The project is built on an intercultural and pluridisiplinary pedagogy on order to construct a more human and harmonious Europe. The Centres offer an original synthesis which lies between an European Cultural objective based upon citizenship and novice pedagogical methods.
